Simple Double Crochet Hat

When this title says “simple” it means it. This hat is easily done in one sitting.

I found this free pattern on ravelry. I was looking for a more lightweight hat since it was starting to get cold out, but was not enough for my heavier winter hat. You see, I shower in the morning before work and my hair is still a bit damp when I’m heading out the door. So having something where I could pile my hair on top of my head and keep it out of the way was a necessity.

Since it’s not stitched in a continuous round, but in rows, it does create a seam.

I used Caron Simply Soft yarn in the colorway Ocean with a 5.5 mm hook.

I did the medium (size 23″ circumference) size and made a few adjustments: one extra 2 dc in round 7. As well as two additional rows after 14 so that the length covered my ears more.

TIP! When it says “loosely” for the decorative edge of round 15, it means it. I had to frog it twice because I made the slip stitches too tight.

The pattern worked up so quickly, I wasted no time making another as a gift. I had this unknown yarn that was passed on to me. The coloring was really beautiful but it wasn’t a full skein, so this was a perfect use!

I mean, look how pretty that yarn is.
